Are you moving soon? Whether you’re relocating down the street or across the country, move day can be stressful. There are so many things to do and remember! That’s why we’ve put together a list of 10 tips to help you prepare for your move. By following these tips, you’ll make move day go a lot smoother and less stressful!

1. Start packing early

The first tip is to start packing early! This may seem like an obvious one, but you’d be surprised how many people wait until the last minute to start packing. By starting early, you’ll have a lot less to do on move day itself and won’t be rushed. Plus, it’ll give you time to properly pack everything so that nothing gets damaged in transit.

2. Declutter before you move

Another important tip is to declutter before you move. There’s no point in paying to move things that you don’t need or use anymore. Go through your belongings and get rid of anything that you don’t want or need. You can donate items, sell them, or throw them away. This will also make packing and unpacking a lot easier.

3. Packing yourself?

Make sure to label all of your boxes so you know what goes where in your new home. This will make unpacking a lot easier and will help you avoid having to search through all of your boxes for items you need.

4. Have your appliances ready

If you’re hiring professional movers, they’ll likely take care of disconnecting and reconnecting your appliances. But if you’re doing it yourself, be sure to disconnect and unplug all of your appliances before move day. This includes your refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove, oven, dishwasher, etc.

5. Make a plan for your pets

If you have pets, you’ll need to make arrangements for them on move day. This may include hiring a pet sitter, taking them to a friend’s house, or having them stay in a kennel. You’ll also want to pack any food, toys, and other supplies they’ll need while you’re moving.

6. Create an “essential items” box

On move day, you’ll likely be without your belongings for a few hours (or even longer if you’re moving cross-country). So it’s important to have a box of essential items that you can take with you. This should include things like toiletries, medications, a change of clothes, snacks, and anything else you may need.

7. Clear the walkways

Before the movers arrive, be sure to clear a path from your front door to the moving truck. This will make it easier for them to move your belongings and will avoid any potential accidents.

8. Move day

On move day itself, be sure to have everything packed and ready to go before the movers arrive. This includes putting all loose items in boxes, disassembling furniture, and having your appliances unplugged. The less the movers have to do on move day, the quicker they’ll be able to get everything loaded onto the truck.

9. Before the movers leave, perform a final walk-through

Perform “a final walk-through” of your old home to make sure that nothing was left behind. Once they’re gone, you can start unpacking in your new home!

We hope these tips help you prepare for your move day. By following these tips, you’ll make move day go a lot smoother and less stressful! Happy moving!
